TR Sullivan of MLB.com reported in his latest inbox column that the Rangers are interested in star Korean infielder Ha-Seong Kim. Earlier this week, Kiwoom Heroes of the Korean Baseball Organization released the 25-year-old Kim for the Major League Baseball team.
Although King played mainly shortstop in his career, he also spent a lot of time at third base this year after the Heroes brought Addison Russell to third base in the middle of the season. Kim also has the ability to handle second base. As Sullivan pointed out, King checked some boxes for the Rangers because he is a mature player and has the potential to provide offensive upgrades on the infield without having to be restricted to one position when signing.
As we pointed out in the Rangers’ offseason outlook, King’s versatility really suits a Texas club that has publicly expressed its desire to be younger. Shortstop Elvis Andrus and second baseman Rougned Odor have a pair of roadblocks in the two middle infield positions, and both of them have signed for two seasons. Andrews struggled in the injury-ridden 2020 campaign, although he was still a useful option in the most recent 2019 due to his outstanding glove work. However, Odor’s struggle is more persistent, and the question of whether the club will move on or let him take the bench role has become more and more prominent over time.
Even if Texas intends to retain two nuclei, Kim or Isiah Kiner-Falefa can be used as a multi-location utility. The pursuit of gold is not necessarily an immediate win in 2021, but a long-term contributor, so if the Rangers feel that he can be a daily choice for third base, shortstop or second base, then there is a reason for the team Push him and organize playing time on the road.
Of course, the Rangers won’t be King’s only team. He has also been in contact with the Blue Jays and will certainly arouse wider interest. For the MLB team, Kim is an unusually young free agent choice. After his strong performance early in his career, he has become a KBO super star performer in the past two seasons.
Although KBO has become a more pitcher-friendly environment in recent years, Kim has improved. Since the opening day of 2019, he has played 62 doubles, 3 three-pointers and 49 home runs in 1,247 games, including 30 long passes in 2020. He has already scored 62 doubles, 3 Three-pointers and 49 home runs were significantly reduced by .307/.393/.500. In the same two games, he has walked 145 times, with only 148 strikeouts-an extension of the year, and also led by 56 to 62 in the stolen base attempts. In the past two seasons, according to wRC+ metrics, he was 41% better than the league average batsman in the KBO.
No matter which club has signed a multi-year contract with King, it needs to pay the transfer fee to the hero team. The money depends on the size of Jin’s contract and exceeds any amount he guaranteed. The heroes have the right to charge 20% of the value of the first 25 MM of the contract, 17.5% of the next 25 MM, and 15% of any amount thereafter. Kim’s 30-day release window started yesterday and lasted until 5pm Eastern Time on December 25th. He can sign freely at any time during this period and does not need to wait until the deadline to make a decision.
Lmao, I just saw this, if you can use any adjective to describe my feelings, it would be ecstatic. So yes, I like it. Now we just need to make it happen.
In addition, I just started posting on the local Texas Rangers blog called Lone Star Ball. It feels weird to talk to a new group, I have become accustomed to the people here. I almost wrote an article as an introduction this morning, haha. I think I have left my mark here, if I were the person people would think of when the wanderer rumors happened, haha.
&, yes, this will be an “exciting” rumor. Kim is a very interesting player, man. The KBO competition coincided with the early morning dove blinds. So I checked some games…at least the periphery?
Anyway, I went to watch Kim’s game on purpose. I am a bad scout and a worse GM. Go straight up and down. Although lol, this does not stop me from continuing to post my photos.
In this case, Ha-Seong Kim will become a reliable MLB player, man. Speed, power, low K rate, and midfield midfield. like very much.
I’ve been moving to an apartment in the Far East, so I’m sorry I haven’t responded to your message on the Semien thread, but I will do it. Tomorrow is the wife’s birthday, so it will not be imminent! .
@Rangers 29 (answered a question in Mark Polishuk’s chat last night and got a new look)-anyway, to put it simply, you can’t have him. He looks much better in green and gold. He will solve the problem for us in the second or SS.
Even as an Englishman, I know the adage that there is never enough pitch, but does it really extend to midfielders? ? ?
@ Ducky I assume that the blind pigeons in the early morning are hunting, but I am curious where you can watch KBO and hunt lmao. If you get a good enough service to stream KBO games while hunting, then you may be in a fairly busy area. How can you hunt pigeons in the center of the city? Ha ha
@A’sfan Idk Why, but I answered many questions in the chat. Every time I encounter a problem, I almost get an answer. Sometimes I just don’t ask any questions because I don’t have any good questions to ask.
By the way, I think Kim will look great in red, white and blue. do not. even. think. about. it. Ha ha
Do not worry. I like the ongoing conversations about long-abandoned threads. Looking forward to your reply, seriously. &-Obviously-the best birthday wishes for your significant other.
man. So I am an avid shooter. I like grouse shooting and waterfowl hunting. Because I have licenses and permits in a few neighboring countries, I have 5 months of grouse season and 9 months of waterfowl.
One thing I do in the summer is to hunt rock pigeons and lead pigeons. Farmers hate them. They compensated me more than once. The best time to set up blinds and try to trick them is at sunrise and sunset. I like to start my day like this, sometimes before I am buried in the construction project of the day/week.
I don’t have to go far to find a place to hunt rock pigeons and lead pigeons. It takes about half an hour by car. In addition, there are plenty of marine technologies that can basically get WiFi anywhere. I spent a few days on one of my boats, where I *simultaneously* played the Yankees and Gent while playing the Ducks.
Man, I like any kind of bird or waterfowl hunting activities, and hope that the vicinity of Lampasas can be better. I like hunting pigeons with collars very much. I need to find some places to go.
My favorite pastime, buddy. I’m really not a pheasant, a quail person? But I like Grouse and Woodcock shooting.
MN and WI have excellent Ruffed and Spruce grouse (both are flushed more than 2 times/hour). I just started going to Sandhills in NE looking for Huns, Sharptails, Prairie Chickens. This is a different world, but the shooting is great. Outside of Alaska, I don’t know where else in the world is more suitable to be a grouse hunter.
Waterfowl are also very good here. North Dakota will start their Canada Goose Season on August 15 (!). They ended the Spring Goose on May 16th (!). Cranes, tundra swans, wild ducks, wood ducks, sea ducks on the Great Lakes. Snow geese on the Missouri River in winter. Go on, buddy. Waterfowl hunting here is very good.
In Minnesota, we only have the so-called stray white pigeon population. Lothar Rockies. I once made farmers willing to pay to let me shoot them. Or buy my shells. I always refuse. But those buckets and bags of farm fresh vegetables that they left in my truck? Well, I take those.
There are many apps to help find a place to hunt, man. Not sure if you have tried any of them.
OnX is a good choice. Show public land. I have never played Texas. So I don’t know much about their public land policy.
@Ducky, I usually continue to talk about it for a day or two after a post is published, and then I continue the discussion with most other people. Are you talking about the Semien thread predicting his price? Because if so, it is a very abandoned thread. It must feel like a private message is that old haha.
Yes. That’s the one. At this point, it is basically a Vintage Thread. Provides a good forum for extensive baseball/cricket conversations.
I can’t stand up in the cricket conversation, haha. Oops, I can hardly talk about football, which is probably the second most watched sport. I like Saints and Longhorns. I can’t name all the players on any team, haha.
Hmm…I won’t add a lot of things to the cricket part. I basically have a story/anecdote. However, the news from someone who came into contact with baseball relatively late and who had never lived in the United States was very interesting. Don’t get too involved in other people’s business, but he comes from a cricket background. Interesting point, imo.
I am an anomaly here, but the trick is to only talk about quarterbacks. Yes, I can say Sam Ehlinger or Drew Brees, but I can’t tell you the defensive rating or any statistics used in football, haha. I am not a football fan, but I am definitely a baseball fan. It’s time to start my throwing plan and start preparing for my season. When I leaned against the chair with my laptop and a bag of potato chips, I said so, but…do I need weight? I am 5’9 195 tall and I am a starting pitcher, so maybe weight will help. I haven’t played it since I gained 20 pounds (not fat), but I don’t know if it will help my game.
Tell you…I learned a lot about myself on that small hill. I have been trying to gain weight for myself. Especially in high school, buddy.
I’m not sure what the current thinking is? It seems that some volume may help generate some strength, but I am worried that too much will cause knee and/or hip problems. It’s best to listen to the coach’s advice, haha.
Just sneaked out to pick up a kilo of tuna (the key part of this lady’s wife’s favorite dish) so I caught up a bit on the thread. Her birthday is a kind of gratitude for myself.
I have always had a soft spot for Rangers, because before I went to the United States to play baseball for the first time in 2012, I (my Red Sox friend) instructed me to watch (as research) the 2011 World Series. If this brings back painful memories, I am sorry.
I expect baseball (which may sound rude) to be a simpler version of cricket. The circumference of the ball is almost exactly the same, but the center of the cricket ball is made of solid wood instead of cork, which weighs about twice as much. The bean ball in cricket is considered a fair game, so the injury is that everyone under the age of 18 (now) must wear something that is basically an anti-collision helmet. I am surprised that baseball does not provide the same protection. Due to a foul (in baseball terms) on my own face, my left cheekbone was rebuilt.
I was shocked by the standards of the defensive field, especially the standards of throwing from the infield. It’s crazy (as a decent cricketer) how good these guys are at catching and timing the pitch. When I coached the children’s team, I always tried to emphasize don’t worry—there is always more time than you think—but the SS and 3B teams in baseball lightened the style of July 4th.
Anyway, I like the idea of watching baseball with one eye and shooting wild pigeons with the other…
In the past few years, I have almost taught myself. I wanted to stop pitching a few years ago until a former minor league player became my minor league coach in the last year of the minor league. He changed some of the things I was doing, and I made the fastest pitch I ever made before. I really heard the sound of the ball hitting the glove for the first time, so from then on I forced myself to learn more about pitching and even built a mound in our house (using the red clay I dug) . A lot of what I learned actually came from Trevor Bauer’s Youtube channel, and he referred to different sources and things to understand that this was very helpful. I imitated Bauer’s curve, it has a nice hard drop, it won’t hurt my arm or twist me.
As for swelling; surprisingly, a lot of leg work. It stops your motivation to move forward and acts like a slingshot after your first leg hits the ground. Then do a lot of flexibility training, whether it’s yoga, stretching or elastic bands. This is what I’m doing, I might go to the HS camp and they will say…no…do this…I only suck haha. No, I hope I can help myself, because even if my arms are horrified by the lack of warming up in front of the bullpen, I feel good.
I envy you as a pitcher-I played something called leg spin (in cricket)-this is the dark art of cricket-think about knuckles. Basically throwing pancakes on the confused batter is so fun…
Once the clay is placed in the truck/trailer attachment of the lawn mower, it will not be too heavy. It’s boring here in Texas, it doesn’t rain, so you have to put a bucket of water in the hole before digging to make it soft. Although it is not too heavy after being dropped from the shovel and placed in the cart.
PS…Keller Murray…Lol, I really like watching him play football, it’s hard to watch him play baseball, because…um…A’s lol.
Now maybe Ducky is easily amused. But I think this is definitely an “interesting point of view.” Um?
I did find it worth noting that cricket matches *not* wear gloves! That ball reminds me of the cue ball, man. mercy. It’s like playing football with sweaters instead of mats and helmets. Wait a moment…
It may not be suitable for everyone. But when you start your great American baseball road trip, if you do, I will take you out.
This may be a strange view, but when a team in my department performs well in the playoffs, I am always happy. Because 2014 is a lost opportunity, but I feel guts for angels because they are inaccessible during this time.
