Summer is coming to an end, and everyone is looking forward to autumn. The past few months have been busy for elected officials and town workers. Copper Canyon’s budget process started in late spring and lasted until September to determine the tax rate.
At the end of fiscal year 2019-2020, revenue exceeded expenditure by USD 360,340. The council voted to transfer these funds to the town’s reserve account. This account is used to offset possible emergency problems and fund our road maintenance.
In the current fiscal year, the town processed more than $410,956 in permits. Part of the permit is used for home decoration, plumbing, HVAC, etc. Most of the permits are used for the construction of new houses in the town. Over the years, Mayor Pro Tem Steve Hill helped the town make good financial decisions and maintained its AA+ bond rating.
At 7 pm on Monday, September 13, the City Council will hold a public hearing to approve the budget for the next fiscal year and consider reducing the tax rate by 2 cents.
As your elected officials we have worked hard to make decisions that are in the best interest of our town to ensure that we remain a rural and thriving community in the future.
Congratulations to our city court administrator Susan Greenwood for obtaining Level 3 certification from the Texas City Court Education Center. This rigorous study course includes three levels of certification, exams for each level, and annual training requirements. There are only 126 third-level municipal court administrators in Texas! Copper Canyon is fortunate to have this level of expertise in our town government.
